How to protect your community group from cybercrime

Cyber security is any strategy, processes, practices or technologies that organisations have in place to secure their networks, computers or other devices, and the data they hold, from damage, attack or unauthorised access.

Isn't cyber security only an issue for individuals?

Cyber security is an important issue for charities and voluntary organisations because they hold sensitive personal data on donors, volunteers or service users. It should not be left to the Secretary, Treasurer or Bookings Secretary to personally address this vital security issue; it is the joint responsibility of all the trustees or people who sit on the management committee.

There are lots of simple steps your group can take to improve its online safety and reduce the risk of succumbing to cybercrime.

Digital Hubs Derbyshire

As part of the Digital Hubs Project, RAD is offering village and community halls the opportunity to attend any of the three Cyber Security awareness training events. These events are FREE and are also open to the many voluntary and community groups that use community halls or operate in your local area.

The event will include:

  • Why Cyber Security is important - Tracy Coates, Senior Community Safety Officer, Derbyshire County Council
  • How to protect your group online – Jodie Nevin, Cyber Protect Officer, Derbyshire Constabulary
  • Digital Marketing - Emma Simpson, Marketing & Communications Officer, RAD
  • Online Data Protection (GDPR) - Helena Stubbs, Community Buildings Officer, RAD

There will be time for a Q&A session at the end.

Refreshments will be provided.
