Suffering in Silence

Many farmers work in isolation or as part of a small team and rely heavily on each other. In the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales it's typical for a farm to be a small, family business.  The worry of animal welfare and making ends meet, to get our food on the table, can take its toll. In Derbyshire we can help. Our Agricultural Chaplaincy project supports the farming community - whether it's a listening ear, signposting to appropriate services or help to get a job done on the farm - we can help.

This 8 minute BBC video, released on 16th April 2019, is an honest account of how farmers (especially men) can struggle alone, without seeking help or support.

BBC Video - Farmers on the Edge

Poor mental health is emerging as one of the biggest, yet unspoken challenges in the farming industry. BBC analysis of the latest figures show that about one agricultural worker a week takes their own life across the UK.
