Rural Action Derbyshire (RAD) is committed to safeguarding our communities from the ever-growing threat of scams and fraud. With the rise in sophisticated scams targeting individuals across the county, our Communities Against Scams initiative is designed to provide vital support and education to help residents protect themselves.

Funded by the Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner, this two-year initiative works closely with local voluntary organizations to raise awareness about the dangers of scams. Through targeted awareness-raising sessions, RAD educates groups and volunteers about common types of fraud, such as identity theft, online scams, and doorstep fraud, while offering practical advice on how to avoid becoming a victim.

The initiative also emphasizes the importance of reporting scams, as fewer than one in seven fraud offences are currently reported to the police. By encouraging more people to come forward, we can help build a clearer picture of the scams affecting our communities and take stronger action against those responsible.

With collaboration at its core, the Communities Against Scams initiative leverages RAD’s strong connections with local communities to spread knowledge and create a network of informed, vigilant residents. Together, we can reduce the impact of scams and build a safer Derbyshire for everyone.
