What We Do Feeding Derbyshire Saffron Kitchen Community Meals Service The Asian Association of Chesterfield and NE Derbyshire is delighted to introduce the Saffron Kitchen Community Meals Service, delivering fresh, hot, nutritious meals direct to your door! The Asian Association has been successful in securing a 'Big Lottery - Reaching Communities Grant' and 'Tesco Bags of Help COVID-19 Communities Fund' grant for this noble project. For some time, the Association has seen a need in the community for a mid-day meal delivery service for elderly and vulnerable people and carers. We know from talking to our own members, associate members and from a wider community survey that a need exists. Plans have been evolving over the last six months or so, but with the advent of COVID-19, social distancing and a period of lockdown there is now an increased urgency to implement the project. The Association is now pleased to announce that it is ready to move ahead with the initiative. Please see the recent article in the Derbyshire Times. Derbyshire Times 16.06.20 Through Saffron Kitchen, the Association initially plans to provide hot packed meals three days per week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays). Saffron Kitchen will offer Asian and western style preparations. The meals will be simple but nutritious and the choices will vary on each day offered. A modest charge will be made to assist with the cost of meal production, packaging and delivery. We will provide free food to members and those in need referred to the scheme. Saffron Kitchen will mainly be targeting the elderly and vulnerable members of the community, including their carers but also those in the wider community of Chesterfield, Hasland, Grassmoor, Hady. Other community members within a feasible radius e.g. Old Brampton and Calow will also be supported. Saffron Kitchen will provide immediate benefits and support during this “Lockdown” period but is intending to continue into the future and become self-sustaining. The Association is collaborating with Rural Action Derbyshire through the Feeding Derbyshire Partnership.
