An Important Cause

This 50-mile hike across the toughest regions of the peak district and is expected to take more than 15 hours to complete. They will be joined by Nick Archer from Rural Action Derbyshire who will document their day-long walk.

Money raised through donations to the effort will go to Feeding Derbyshire, a project that supports Food Banks and Community Pantries in Derbyshire.

RDSSP is a school sports partnership working with schools across Derbyshire Dales to help Increase the physical activity levels of pupils, raise the profile and standards of Physical Education, and make school sports accessible to all.

“We wanted to make a positive, direct impact on the lives of people who live and work in our community, and to be able to support the local schools and families that with work with during this tough time of cost of living crisis. An award-winning local charity, such as RAD, is an ideal partnership to both promote and raise awareness of the cause, as well be a worthy recipient for the funds.

Feeding Derbyshire

Feeding Derbyshire seeks to help those struggling with low incomes, debt, and poor access to affordable, nutritious food. We aim to reduce the negative impact of hunger by working to ensure our projects are inclusive and reach the most vulnerable people in the county. We intend to give families and individuals the confidence and capacity to be self-reliant, and able to meet their own and their children’s needs.

Food Banks are really struggling to get enough food to meet the demand. There is far less surplus food available from supermarkets. We want to raise money so we can fund a storage unit and run a pilot to bulk buy food to improve affordable stock supply for food banks across Derbyshire.    Even if you can't donate to the fundraiser, please keep an eye out to see what it is your local foodbank is short of. If you can donate some food to them directly it would really help. It's so sad that we are referring people to food projects who are running out of food so having to close!

An Epic Walk

The team will be setting off at 2 a.m. from Edale and looking to visit several schools that RDSSP operates in along the way, with staff and students standing by to cheer them on as they pass, and perhaps even join them for a stretch of the walk. They aim to finish in Doveridge at around 5 p.m.

The hike will have live coveragevia RAD’s social media throughout the day and will be shot by Nick for a short film that will document the day's adventure, as well as talk about Food Poverty and the need for schemes such as Feeding Derbyshire in these uncertain times.
