Our staff have been busy with the media lately.

Beverley Parker was on BBC Radio Derby Steve Jordan's drive-time show on Monday 20th May to talk about the impact of Post Office closures on rural Derbyshire. More people in rural areas visit Post Offices weekly than in urban areas. The ability to use banking services as well as postal services mean many people without access to the internet can get cash out.  Bev also talked about the number of people that do not access the internet or use a computer at present and a new project we will be launching later this summer to help get people online.

Derbyshire Times

The front page story of the Derbyshire Times on 23rd May saw the headline "Shock figures reveal one-third of children in town are living in the grip of poverty". The full story was covered on pages 6 and 7 and did mention the work RAD is doing with our Feeding Derbyshire project working with Public Health at Derbyshire County Council. There was a letter to the Editor in response to recent reports in the Derbyshire Times (20th June 2019) on how hard it is for some low income families to thrive in Derbyshire and how it can lead to very difficult time.

Crowdfunding Campaign Kicks-Off

Our Feeding Derbyshire project, in partnership with Feeding Britain, has launched a campaign to raise additional funds to support Food & Fun Clubs during the school summer holidays.  We would really like to increase the provision of these clubs so more families can access these clubs. It can be a real struggle for some families when their kids are off school, so the more money we can raise the more children we can help. Derbyshire Times

A report on page 24 of the Derbyshire Times on Thursday 13th June covers the Crowdfunding campaign. The Editor, Phil Bramley also focuses on the feature in his Editorial Comment on page 52. It really is a sad state of affairs that in 2019 we are having to crowdfund to try and help low income families find food and childcare for their children in 2019.
