Charity Times Awards 2020

Rural Action Derbyshire is delighted to have made the Shortlist for the Charity of the Year: with an income of less than £1 million in this year's Charity Times Awards.

In our submission we wanted to show how adaptable we have been over the last 96 years and how we continue to grow and make a difference in rural communities in Derbyshire.

Rural Action Derbyshire is a 96 year old charity that has stayed the test of time due to a succession of trustees and leaders who have not been afraid to embrace change.  The last ten years has seen a seismic change in our operating environment, coupled with an ever-widening social and cultural gap between traditional and incoming rural communities, and a decreasing pot of grant funding.  We were in danger of losing our unique identity and becoming out of touch with rural communities.  We embarked on a business transformation built on investing in staff and systems and learning to think like a small business.  We have learned to use our personal experience and knowledge of rural communities to shape our ideas and build solid strategic relationships to make our ideas happen; to focus on our unique selling point and our core mission of making a difference in rural communities.
